Distribuzione di Alosa alosa secondo IUCN

 

Dalla Norvegia (raramente presente) fino al Mediterraneo occidentale. Raramente nel Rodano. Coste atlantiche della Penisola Iberica e della Francia (Adour, Garonna, Loira); a settentrione fino a sud dell'Irlanda ed a sud ovest dell'Inghilterra, diminuisce rapidamente verso nord attraverso la Manica fino al Mare del Nord sud occidentale (in estinzione nel Reno). Nel fiume Elba risulta molto rara e spesso viene confusa con Alosa fallax.
