Note sulla sistematica - A questa specie veniva e viene spesso ancora ascritta C. bilineata. Studi recenti effettuati da Vasiljev & Vasiljeva (1994: 67) sulla comparazione dei dati cariologici delle specie di Cobitis della Russia, con i dati di Cataudella et al. (1977: 163), rivelano che il materiale italiano non è conspecifico con nessuna specie presente in Russia. Questo lascia pensare che l'areale di Cobitis bilineata sia ristretto soltanto ad alcune parti della Penisola Italiana, mentre il materiale dell'Europa centrale sia conspecifico con le popolazioni di scandinave.

Distribuzione di Cobitis taenia

 

Specie diffusa a sud del 61° parallelo nord, nei bacini atlantici dal fiume Loira alla Danimarca, in quelli del Mar Baltico, e nell'Inghilterra orientale, ad est fino al bacino superiore del fiume Volga ed al fiume Ural. Presente nei fiumi della parte settentrionale del Mar Nero, ad eccezione del bacino del fiume Danubio e del fiume Kuban.
