Note sulla sistematica - A questa specie veniva e viene spesso ancora ascritta C. bilineata. Studi recenti effettuati da Vasiljev & Vasiljeva (1994: 67) sulla comparazione dei dati cariologici dei Cobitis della Russia, con i dati di Cataudella et al. (1977: 163), rivelano che il materiale italiano non è conspecifico con nessuna specie presente in russia. Questo lascia pensare che l'areale di C. bilineata sia ristretto soltanto ad alcune parti della Penisola Italiana, mentre il materiale dell'Europa centrale sia conspecifico con le popolazioni di C. taenia scandinave.
