Specie descritta inizialmente in abstract, successivamente illustrata e descritta in maggiori dettagli in Steindachner 1866:268, Pl. 1 (fig. 1). Anche in Steindachner 1866:5. 	*Distribuzione di Anaecypris hispanica* secondo IUCN**

L’area di diffusione è limitata alla Spagna ed al Portogallo. Attualmente la specie è confinata in alcuni fiumi del bacino della Guadiana. In Portogallo è presente nel sottobacino dei fiumi Gévora (Abrilongo), Caia, Alamo, Degebe (Pecena e Pardiela), Ardila (Murtega, Murtiagao e Safara), Carreiras, Chança, Vascao, Fupana e Odeleite. La specie è endemica della Penisola Iberica.
