Note sui nomi esteri - Come risulta evidente, in molti paesi si attribuisce il nome latino B. meridionalis, a specie di barbi diffusi nei Balcani.

Etimologia - Il nome specifico meridionalis vale come "del sud" in latino; mette così in risalto la distribuzione della specie nel sud della Francia.
