Note sui nomi esteri - Come risulta evidente, in molti paesi si attribuisce il nome latino B. meridionalis ad altre specie del genere Barbus diffuse nei principalmente nei Balcani.

 

 

Etimologia - Il nome specifico meridionalis vale come "del sud" in latino; mette così in risalto la distribuzione della specie nel sud della Francia.

Distribuzione di Barbus meridionalis secondo IUCN

 

Specie diffusa dalla Francia meridionale al nord della Spagna. In Francia si incontra frequentemente nel bacino del Rodano. In Spagna la specie è segnalata con certezza nei bacini dei fiumi Muga, Fluviá, Ter, Daró, Tordera e Besós (Doadrio et al., 1988b).
