Distribuzione originaria di Esox lucius secondo IUCN

 

 

Specie a distribuzione olartica. In Europa è presente nei bacini del Mar Caspio, Mar Nero, Mar Baltico, Mar Bianco, Mare di Barents, Mare Glaciale Artico, Mare del Nord, Mare d'Aral, e nel bacino dell'Oceano Atlantico fino al bacino del fiume Adour a sud. Nel bacino del Mare Mediterraneo, nei bacini del Rodano e del Nord Italia. Largamente distribuita in Nord America ed in Siberia fino al bacino del fiume Anadyr (bacino del Mare di Bering). Storicamente assente dalla Penisola Iberica, dai bacini mediterranei della Francia meridionale, dall'Italia centrale e meridionale, dalla Grecia occidentale e meridionale, dal bacino orientale del Mare Adriatico, dall'Islanda, Norvegia occidentale e Scozia settentrionale. Attualmente ampiamente introdotta o traslocata per fini alieutici in Europa e nel mondo.
