Distribuzione di Lates niloticus

 

Specie largamente diffusa in tutta la regione etiopica dell'Africa, autoctona od introdotta in tutti i bacini fluviali importanti compresi il Nilo, il Ciad, il Senegal, il Volta ed il Congo. Presente in acque salmastre nel lago Mariout, vicino a Alessandria. autoctona nei laghi Alberto, Rodolfo e Tana. Introdotta nel lago Vittoria e negli altri grandi laghi della Rift Walley, dove ha causato gravi danni ecologici.
