Distribuzione europea di Archocentrus multispinosus

 

 

L'area di diffusione originaria della specie comprende i bacini del versante atlantico dell'America centrale, a nord dal fiume Rio Patuca (Honduras) fino al fiume Rio Martina (Costa Rica), ed i bacini del versante pacifico a nord dal fiume Rio Guasaule (Nicaragua) al fiume Rio Tempisque (Costa Rica). La specie è stata introdotta nelle Filippine ma non ci sono dati sull'acclimatazione. Esemplari acquistati per acquari ornamentali sono spesso rilasciati dai proprietari in natura. Una popolazione è stata scoperta nel 1991 nelle acque della sorgente termale di Heviz in Ungheria.
