Australoheros facetus

Le specie di questo genere sono state classificate come membri del genere Cichlasoma fino al 2005. Il genere è stato istituito da Rícan & Kullander, in base a studi cladistici che hanno individuato come alcune specie di Cichlasoma siano discendenti da una specie ancestrale diversa da quella delle altre specie assegnate al genere.

Genere diffuso in America centrale e meridionale. Una specie introdotta con acclimatazione nelle acque costiere del sud della Spagna e del Portogallo.
