Distribuzione di Benthophilus stellatus secondo IUCN

  

 

Golfo di Taganrog e banchi di sabbia della costa orientale del Mar d'Azov. Presente anche lungo la costa occidentale, specialmente negli anni di più alto livello dell'acqua quando la specie è stata campionata nella zona centrale del mare (Iljin, 1927a, 1927c, 1930; Maiskiy, 1955, 1960). La specie è formalmente descritta da Voronezh (bacino superiore del fiume Don R., 51,8 ° N 33,5 ° E), ma non vi è stata più campionata dal 1960. Secondo Kottelat & Freyhof (2007) lungo il corso del fiume Don giunge fino alla parte superiore della diga di Tsymlyansk. Benthophilus stellatus potrebbe essere presente nel Severskiy Donetz e nel Manyč (Solodovnikov, 1930; Vitkovskiy, 2000), e nel basso corso del fiume Kuban (Emtyl' et al., 1988.) insieme a B. durrelli, ma deve essere confermato.
