Opinioni: discutibile come sinonimo di "Neogobius cephalarges" (Pallas 1814), per Berg 1949:1087, Miller 1973:502; sinonimo di "Neogobius platyrostris" (Pallas 1814), ma valida sottospecie, per Pinchuk 1977:588, Reshetnikov et al. 1997:756; nomenclatura valida come "Neogobius eurycephalus" (Kessler 1874), secondo Miller in Whitehead et al. 1986:1059, Kottelat 1997:178, Vasil'eva 1998:138, Bilecenoglu et al. 2002:134, Pinchuk et al. 2003:212, Vasil'eva 2003:S49, Bogutskaya & Naseka 2004:229.
