Distribuzione di Mugil cephalus secondo Fishbase

 

 

Specie cosmopolita, diffusa nelle acque litorali delle zone tropicali e subtropicali di tutti i mari. Nel Pacifico orientale si incontra dalla California al Cile. In Atlantico occidentale è presente dalla Nuova Scozia fino al Brasile, da Capo Cod al Golfo del Messico, assente dalle isole Bahamas ed in larga parte delle Indie Occidentali e dei Caraibi. In Atlantico orientale si incontra dal Golfo di Biscaglia al Sud Africa. Presente nei bacini di mar Mediterraneo e Mar Nero.
