Specie diffusa in Europa, nei bacini del Danubio, Prut e Dnestr. Z. zingel è autoctona in Austria; Bosnia e Erzegovina, Bulgaria, Croazia, Repubblica Ceca, Germania, Ungheria, Repubblica di Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Polonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovacchia, Slovenia e Ucraina.
