Distribuzione di Salvelinus alpinus

 

La specie ha un ampia distribuzione nell'emisfero boreale. Nord Atlantico dal sud della Norvegia all'Islanda e Groenlandia meridionale. Popolazioni isolate nel nord della Gran Bretagna, Scandinavia, Finlandia ed Alpi. Popolazioni "land-locked" presenti in Quebec, Canada, in Maine e nel New Hampshire negli Stati Uniti. In Italia la specie è presente in numerosi laghi collinari e montani situati tra i 250 m e i 2500 m circa di quota e in particolare nei laghi alpini dell'Alto Adige e del Trentino. È stata introdotta anche in Lombardia e in Piemonte.
